About the role

About the Role

As a Senior Network Architect in the Hosting and Infrastructure Architecture team at TfL, you will play a crucial role in major projects and programmes aimed at improving London's travel experience. Your responsibilities will include developing new solutions in Public and Private Cloud to support key initiatives such as enhancing Cyber Security, transforming customer-facing services, and refreshing Datacentre Networks and Wireless Infrastructure across the London Underground.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will contribute to the end-to-end lifecycle of specific network products, from conceptualisation and business case development through to shaping strategies and roadmaps. You will collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Solution Architects, and Test Teams to develop high and low-level designs. Your role will also involve working in partnership with third-party suppliers to ensure their proposed solutions meet business and technical requirements.

Knowledge and Experience Required

We are looking for candidates with expert knowledge in the following infrastructure technologies:

  • Data centre networks, including public and private cloud (e.g., MPLS, SDN, WAN/LAN, Fabric, WiFi, QoS & CoS).
  • Network technologies such as firewalls, switching, routing, and proxy (e.g., F5 VPN and Load Balancing, Citrix Netscaler VPN and Load Balancing, Cisco, Checkpoint Firewalls, Juniper Firewalls, Forcepoint Proxy, Azure, and AWS constructs).
  • Zero-Trust Network Architectures (e.g., Zscaler).
  • Network monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Solarwinds, and Thousand Eyes).

It would be advantageous to also demonstrate knowledge of:

  • IT vs Operational Technology and their differing requirements.
  • Managing contractual issues in a project environment.
  • Project management tools and techniques.
  • Certification in an Enterprise Architecture Framework such as TOGAF.

A degree or relevant professional experience is also desirable. Strong network architecture skills, the ability to develop high-level architectures from loose requirements, and proven analytical skills for producing design artefacts are essential. Effective communication skills with a broad range of stakeholders, experience designing systems using industry-standard frameworks, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also key.

Benefits

Excellent benefits include:

  • Final salary pension scheme
  • Free travel on the TfL network

  • 30 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays
  • Hybrid working approach
  • Optional private healthcare discounted scheme
  • Tax-efficient cycle-to-work programme
  • Retail, health, leisure, and travel offers
  • Discounted Eurostar travel
