About the role
About the Role
The Apprenticeship Development Manager (ADM) role is responsible for overseeing the complete apprenticeship journey. This includes ensuring apprentices receive full support to successfully complete their apprenticeships. The role covers apprentice induction, progress monitoring against delivery plans, performance management, placement coordination, reviews, and successful roll-off.
The ADM will play a key part in maintaining the organisation's ‘employer provider’ status, ensuring adherence to ESFA funding rules, Ofsted requirements, and internal quality standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide people leadership for apprentices, including those in operational and safety-critical environments, addressing their performance, development, and wellbeing needs in line with organisational processes.
- Monitor apprentice progress against delivery plans, identifying issues and agreeing on actions, escalating concerns as required.
- Plan and coordinate apprentice placements to meet scheme requirements, collaborating with managers, trainers, and assessors to support both on-the-job and off-the-job learning.
- Develop apprenticeship scheme plans in line with evolving apprenticeship standards, integrating internal and external training with apprenticeship learning.
- Collaborate with Early Careers and onboarding teams to support apprentice enrolment, induction, and ongoing engagement, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Conduct regular reviews using Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), progress reviews, and assessment plans, clearly recording outcomes and agreeing next steps for apprentice progression.
- Identify individual learning or support needs and implement agreed interventions, including reasonable adjustments, to ensure equal opportunities for apprentices.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent delivery of apprenticeship programmes, communicating requirements and resolving delivery issues.
- Ensure apprenticeship activities comply with DfE funding rules, Ofsted requirements, awarding body standards, and internal quality processes, maintaining accurate records.
- Support safeguarding, Prevent, and health and safety requirements by promoting standards and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Utilise organisational systems, including SAP R3 and HR Functions, for work organisation, progress tracking, reporting, quality assurance, and audit purposes.
- Contribute to the procurement of external college providers to ensure high-quality delivery.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge
- Level 3 qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Training in safeguarding (Level 2 minimum).
- In-depth knowledge of apprenticeship delivery as an Employer Provider.
- Strong understanding of DfE funding rules, Ofsted inspection framework, and awarding body requirements.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, PREVENT, equality, diversity, and health & safety in a learner environment.
- Strong commercial acumen with a focus on quality standards, aligned to audit and compliance responsibilities.
Skills
- Ability to manage apprentice journeys across multiple stakeholders, influencing placement managers.
- Ability to coach and develop a diverse team.
- Ability to assess skills, knowledge, and behaviours of both apprentices and staff using various methods.
- Effective coaching and mentoring capabilities with strong observation and feedback skills.
- Strong quality assurance, organisation, and attention to detail.
- Confidence in managing performance, difficult conversations, and compliance risk.
- Excellent communication skills.
Experience
- Proven experience managing apprenticeship schemes or learning programmes end-to-end.
- Experience of conducting formal reviews and managing employee performance.
- Experience working within regulated, audited education or training environments.
