About the role

As the Station Manager, you will provide strong leadership and direction across the station teams to ensure that the company's goals and objectives are fully understood and delivered.

Reporting to the Area Station Manager, this role will lead the day-to-day station operations, ensuring they are delivered in line with company expectations through a period of sustained operational and structural change.

Covering the on-call requirements in this area requires the post holder to drive with a full clean UK driving license to get to all station locations in the area.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Passion: A dynamic individual, used to working in a 24/7, customer-driven environment, ideally with experience from transport, retail, or customer service industries.
  • Leadership: Lead, direct, and motivate station teams to deliver agreed customer service strategies, embedding a climate of continual improvement.
  • Role Model: Be a centered, intuitive, creative, and reflective key role model for your team.
  • Safety: Ensure and embed a safety culture that addresses the acceptance of risk and introduces personal accountability and ownership of safety-related issues within a highly regulated and unionized environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to learn quickly and take ownership comfortably in fast-paced, dynamic environments where the customer is always present.
  • Management: Proven management experience, leading a team of direct reports with overall responsibility for approximately 50 employees.
  • People Management: Responsible for all people management activities, including welfare, performance, attendance, disciplines, grievances, and training.
  • Deployment: Deploy front-line employees during disruption to meet customer needs, ensuring all company standards are met.
  • Service Delivery: Deliver a safe and reliable train service, minimizing train dispatch-related incidents and delays.
  • Station Improvement: Work with Facilities and other stakeholders to maintain and improve station facilities.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate potential safety incidents to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven track record of line and resource management experience, preferably in a transport, retail, or other customer-centric environment.
  • Experience of influencing and delivering through others.
  • Proven ability to plan in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering customer service, preferably in a transportation industry.
  • A natural and inspirational leader, capable of coaching your team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence.
  • Clear communicator, both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Planning and organizational skills to meet demanding timescales.
  • Ability to investigate delays and incidents to identify causes and make recommendations to prevent re-occurrence.
  • High IT literacy, with the ability to interpret data and understand trends using various software.
  • Able to work within a Safety Critical role (preferable).
