The Fleet Graduate Engineer Role

This Graduate Engineering role provides a clear pathway to becoming a leader within the railway industry. Under the guidance of the Fleet Standards Manager and a dedicated mentor, you will undertake a tailored development program. This program covers essential areas including depot operations, engineering leadership, project management, and commercial functions. The role is designed to build your technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and professional skills, supporting your progression towards Chartered or Incorporated status as recognized by Engineering Council UK standards.

What You Will Do:

• Training & Development: Participate in mandatory and recommended training, maintaining a personal development log.
• Fleet Function Exposure: Collaborate with departments such as Depot Production, Operations, Line of Route Engineers, and Safety Representatives for comprehensive operational understanding.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancement and support the implementation of procedural and operational changes.
• Project Support: Assist the Fleet Engineering Team with assigned projects to achieve team objectives.
• Upskilling & Knowledge Sharing: Engage in development schemes and support wider team upskilling where applicable.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships across the business and industry for collaborative working, communication, and problem-solving.
• Technical Support: Assist in resolving technical maintenance issues related to specific trains and fleets.
• Mobility & Flexibility: Be prepared to work across different business areas and locations as required.
• Structured Learning and Mentorship: Benefit from guidance from a Chartered Engineer mentor to support technical growth and professional accreditation.

What We Need From You:

• A strong willingness and ability to learn on the job in a dynamic engineering environment.
• Degree-level education in engineering with a qualification accredited by the Engineering Council.
• Sound theoretical and practical understanding of engineering principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Capability to work independently and collaboratively within the Fleet Engineering Team.
• Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital systems.
• A self-starter with the ability to build relationships and positively influence stakeholders.
• Proven analytical skills and a process-driven approach to tasks.
• Excellent problem-solving skills to assess issues and deliver effective solutions.
