Greater Anglia is currently identifying candidates for future Platform Host Area Relief (Train Dispatcher) positions. This is an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career within the railway sector, with roles available at Shenfield and Southend Victoria Stations. Successful applicants will be placed in a Talent Bank for up to six months, with potential for offered roles should suitable opportunities arise.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure a safe environment for passengers while delivering effective customer service and enhancing the overall customer experience. Full training and a uniform will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist passengers, including those with mobility or visual impairments, during boarding and alighting.
- Deploy station ramps, assist with luggage, and support passengers using station wheelchairs.
- Collaborate with Drivers and Conductors to ensure smooth communication and service delivery.
- Comply with safety regulations, report faults and hazards, and be responsible for the safe and punctual dispatch of trains.
- Work with other departments to ensure operational efficiency and assist customers during disruptions.
About You
- You must be over 18 years of age.
- You will be working an average of 35 hours per week on a shift-based pattern, including early starts (from 0600), late finishes (up to 2330), night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
- You must be able to arrange your own transport to ensure timely arrival for shifts.
- You possess a friendly, approachable demeanor with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You are calm under pressure, able to think on your feet, and handle various situations effectively.
- You have a positive, “can-do” attitude and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team.
- You take pride in providing excellent customer service and are passionate about customer safety.
- You are a problem solver with integrity, ready to tackle diverse situations.
Training and Checks
- A compulsory 5-day Dispatch training course at our Stratford Academy, followed by a final assessment, is required.
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory Right to Work checks, a DBS check, and a safety-critical medical assessment.
