About the role

Job Introduction

The primary function of this Engineering Support role is to assist the Tunnel Engineering team in the engineering management of various tunnel works. This includes preparing tunnel-specific documentation to ensure works progress without delay, collating data to support the Permit to Excavate (PTE) process, and providing input into Shift Review Group (SRG) meetings. The role also involves assisting with engineering administrative tasks and providing stand-in cover for Tunnel Engineers, as well as conducting tunnel visits for data collection and review.

The role will report to the Tunnel Engineering Manager.

Role Responsibility

Key responsibilities include contributing to the Shift Review Group (SRG) and Permit to Excavate (PTE) process, involving the technical review of ground movements from tunnelling works and reconciling these against TBM parameters. You will also contribute to the QA function for tunnel drives, ensuring assurance evidence is obtained and stored correctly. Managing progressive assurance for tunnel segments through the creation and review of documentation packages is also a key aspect of this role. Furthermore, you will act as a focal point between various third parties/utilities teams and the tunnel delivery team, ensuring third-party approvals are actioned within the SRG. Ensuring that engineering aspects of tunnel management are captured in the programme and performing engineering reviews of technical submissions are also vital duties. You will assist in reviewing instrumentation and monitoring data for surface movements due to tunnelling and review Ground Movement Assessments to understand predicted movements of third-party assets.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess an Engineering degree and be working towards Chartership. Tunnelling experience is preferable but not essential.
